What is the Electronic Prescription Service?

EPS is the NHS system that lets your GP send prescriptions directly and securely to a pharmacy of your choice — no paper FP10s, no trips back to the surgery. You nominate Qrystal Pharmacy once, and from then on every NHS prescription your GP issues lands in our queue automatically.

Most patients use EPS for repeat prescriptions: long-term medicines that you take regularly. Our team checks the prescription, queries the GP if needed, dispenses the items, and either holds them ready for collection or delivers them to your door — depending on what works for you.

Nomination takes a minute: we record your preference, send it to the NHS Spine, and your GP system updates automatically. You can change or cancel your nomination at any time.

Who can use EPS?

  • Anyone registered with an NHS GP in England
  • Patients on regular repeat prescriptions (most common use case)
  • One-off prescriptions also supported — no need to be on repeats
  • No age restriction; under-16s nominated via parent or guardian

You're not eligible if:

  • Some controlled drugs (Schedule 2/3) and prescriptions issued in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland aren't covered by NHS England EPS — please ask if unsure

Electronic Prescription Service — FAQ

Does EPS cost anything?

Nomination is free. You only pay the standard NHS prescription charge per item, unless you're exempt (under 16, over 60, on a low-income certificate, pregnant or recently postnatal, or with certain medical conditions).

How do I nominate Qrystal?

Walk in and ask, ring us, or use the online form on our booking page. We add the nomination to the NHS Spine on the spot — your GP system will reflect the change automatically.

Can I still pick up urgent prescriptions elsewhere?

Yes. Even with us nominated, you can ask your GP to issue a one-off paper prescription if you need to use a different pharmacy on a particular day.

What if I want to change pharmacies later?

Just ask the new pharmacy — they'll update your nomination on the Spine, no paperwork needed. You can also ask us to remove the nomination if you'd rather not have one.

Does delivery cost anything?

No — same-day delivery across London is free for EPS prescriptions ordered before 2pm. Outside London we can arrange tracked next-day delivery for a small fee.

What if my medicine is out of stock?

We'll contact you straight away with options: source it from a wholesaler same-day, partial-supply with the rest to follow, or speak to your GP about an alternative. Most issues are resolved within 24 hours.

Can I track my prescription?

Yes. Once it's been issued by your GP, you can see it on the NHS app under 'Your medicines'. We'll also text you when it's ready to collect or has been dispatched.
