London Bridge sits at the heart of one of the best-connected corners of the city. With London Bridge and Borough stations on the doorstep, the Eurostar a short hop away at St Pancras, and both Gatwick and City Airport within easy reach, this is a neighbourhood full of people heading somewhere — for work, for family, or for the trip they've been planning all year.

Wherever you're going, the healthiest journeys start well before you reach the airport. Qrystal Pharmacy runs a full travel clinic on Borough High Street, a few minutes from London Bridge station, offering vaccinations, country-specific advice, and Yellow Fever certification. Here's everything you need to know to travel protected.

Where to find us

We're at 301 Borough High Street, London SE1 1JH — on the main road between London Bridge and Borough Underground, easy to reach whether you're commuting, live locally, or are simply passing through before a trip.

  • London Bridge (National Rail, Northern & Jubilee lines): about 8 minutes' walk south, down past Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market onto Borough High Street.
  • Borough Underground (Northern line): roughly 2 minutes from our door.
  • Buses: numerous routes run along Borough High Street, stopping seconds from us.

That makes it simple to fit a travel consultation into a lunch break, a commute, or a weekend in the area — no separate journey across town to a specialist clinic.

Why timing matters more than anything

The single most important thing to know about travel vaccinations is this: start early. Many travel vaccines need to be given weeks before you fly, and several — such as Hepatitis B and Rabies — involve a course of two or three doses spread over days or weeks to give full protection.

Ideally, book your travel consultation six to eight weeks before departure. That leaves time to complete any multi-dose courses and lets a vaccine reach its full effect before you land.

Vaccinations matched to your destination

There's no one-size-fits-all list. The vaccines you need depend on where you're going, what you'll be doing there, how long you'll stay, and your own medical history. In our consultation we work through all of that with you.

Common travel vaccinations we can help with include:

  • Yellow Fever — required for entry to many countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South America, and often needed as a certificate for onward travel. We are a registered Yellow Fever centre and can issue the official certificate.
  • Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B — for travel to much of Asia, Africa, and Central and South America.
  • Typhoid — where food and water hygiene may be a risk.
  • Rabies — for travellers heading to remote areas, working with animals, or staying for extended periods.
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio boosters.
  • Cholera, Japanese Encephalitis, and Tick-borne Encephalitis for specific destinations and activities.

Because requirements change and depend on the latest outbreak and entry data, we check your itinerary against up-to-date country guidance during the appointment — so your protection reflects the real picture on the ground, not a generic checklist.

Malaria: prevention beyond the needle

Not every travel health risk has a vaccine. Malaria, which is present across large parts of Africa, Asia, and South America, is prevented through a combination of antimalarial tablets and simple bite-avoidance measures.

In your consultation we'll assess the malaria risk for your specific route and recommend the right antimalarial where needed, alongside practical advice on repellents, nets, and clothing. Getting this right matters: malaria is serious, but it is largely preventable with the right preparation.

What a travel consultation actually involves

A travel health appointment is a proper clinical consultation, not just a jab at a counter. Here's how it works:

  1. Before you arrive, have your itinerary ready — countries, regions, dates, and the kind of trip (city break, safari, backpacking, volunteering, visiting family).
  2. We review your travel plans and health history, including any long-term conditions, allergies, medications, and previous vaccinations.
  3. We build a personalised plan — which vaccines you need, which are recommended, what's required for entry, and whether antimalarials are advised.
  4. We administer the vaccines you're ready for that day and schedule any further doses.
  5. You leave with clear advice on food and water safety, insect-bite prevention, and staying well while you're away — plus your Yellow Fever certificate where relevant.

Come with any old vaccination records you have. Knowing what you've already had avoids unnecessary repeat doses and helps us focus on what you actually need.

Same-day availability for busy travellers

We know trips are often booked at short notice — and so are the plans around them. Where we have the vaccines you need in stock, we can frequently vaccinate on the same day as your consultation, so a single visit gets you sorted.

For anyone working around London Bridge, The Shard, or More London, that's the difference between a manageable lunchtime appointment and yet another thing left undone before departure. If you're on a tight timeline, phone ahead and we'll confirm what we can do in one visit.

More than vaccines: travelling with a health condition

If you live with a long-term condition — diabetes, asthma, a heart condition — travel brings its own questions. How much medication should you carry? How do you keep insulin cool? What happens across time zones?

Our pharmacists can help you plan ahead: ensuring you have enough of your regular medicines for the whole trip (and some spare), advice on carrying them safely and legally, and guidance on managing your routine while you're away. If you collect NHS repeats from us through the Electronic Prescription Service, it's easy to make sure you're fully stocked before you go.

A neighbourhood of travellers

Borough and London Bridge are a natural starting point for journeys of every kind. Guy's Hospital and the offices around More London draw people who travel for work; the students and residents of SE1 head off on gap years, family visits, and holidays; and the millions who pass through London Bridge station each year include plenty about to board a flight. A local, walk-in-friendly travel clinic means all of them can prepare properly without a trek across the city to a dedicated travel centre.

When to seek other care

A travel clinic is for planning and prevention. If you become unwell during or after a trip — particularly with a fever after visiting a malaria area — seek medical advice promptly and mention where you've travelled; call NHS 111 for urgent advice, or 999 in an emergency. For everyday health needs before you go, our pharmacists are also on hand through Pharmacy First for common conditions like earache, sinusitis, or an infected insect bite.

Book before you fly

Wherever the map is taking you, give your health a head start. Book six to eight weeks ahead where you can — and if the trip's already close, come in anyway. A short visit near London Bridge now means a healthier, easier journey later.
